Term/Concept Extraction
ABOUT
Concept extraction or concept mining is related to text and data mining. Similar to text and data mining, concept mining tries to discover patterns in unstructured sets of data. Whereas text mining extracts information from the words in a document and the interferences between them, concept extraction uncovers the concepts within a text.
As a discipline of computer science, concept extraction uses methods from artificial intelligence and statistics. However, based on the analysis of terms and concepts it is also strongly connected to linguistics. Concept extraction can be applied in various disciplines facing huge amounts of information, e.g., in order to detect and index similar documents in large databases or for clustering documents by topic.
